After a quiet night in Queenstown amongst amazing views of lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables, we began our morning in Arrowtown with baked goods and a loose dog. Noticing the dogs evident lack of street smarts, we dropped it in to the local vet. It turned out Penny the Cocker Spaniel was making a habit of running away from home and going for a swim.
Our real work for the day (sadly, our second to last) was at the Arrowtown Plunket rooms. We began spreading bark under a playground, topped up the sand pit, cleaned walls, windows and toys, constructed a ‘junior jumper’ and replaced the safety net on one of those modern trampolines. Lisa White generously provided morning tea (with 100′s and 1000′s bikies) and lunch, and her toddler son Dylan provided much entertainment while we worked. We were shoveling, scrubbing, gardening and spraying, and left the Plunket rooms feelings we’d completed many varied jobs all in a morning. We are also now skilled in constructing trampolines (after pulling apart and reconstructing it several times – we blame the faulty instructions).
We drove North again, leaving our dear Kurt in Cromwell, mistakenly detouring to Alexandra, then back to Cromwell, and away again! We travelled through a warm Central Otago, Lake Tekapo and Canterbury Plains. We had panoramic views thanks to our van, of all the lakes, mountains and plains and we passed the six hours with car games, singing ‘Solidarity Forever’, and a heated discussion of alcohol law reform and drinking cultures. We’re heading to Christchurch for our final day of the Clarion Tour. I think we’re all feeling tired, but also very satisfied with our efforts.
